The association of
persons with disability Split is a non-profitable and non-governmental
association involved in social and humanitarian activities which are
important as well as for disabled people as for the social community.
The vision of this association is to establish a social and
economical system whch will, in its work and social care, consider
the needs of disabled people and respect their human dignity. The
misssion of this association is to make us aware of rights, needs
and potentials of people with disability, and to provide patterns
for their equal and active contribution in the complete life the
community.
The association was founded on November 24, 1983. During that period
its name and organisation varied, and it has been functioning under
its current name since February 2003. The association has more than
430 members, which makes only a tenth part of all categories of
disabled people that it gathers and who live in the area of the city
of Split.
Depending on the type of disability, the members of the association
are involved in one of three sections: the physically disabled,
cerebral and infantile paralysis, and dystrophies. Concerning the
achievement of their personal interests, members can - depending on
their inclination, as well as existential and spiritual needs -
engage in different workshops and clubs.
The association is administered by the direct involvement of members
in work of sections, workshops and assembly meetings of the
association, or yet indirectly through elected representatives in
the main bodies of association and section committees. The
authorised representative of the association is the president of the
association.
WHY HAVE WE ORGANISED OURSELVES?
Self-organisation of people with disability
emerged with intention of promoting common interests, active
involvement in taking care of rehabilitation and socialisation of
people with disability, offering help to members and other disabled
people in realizing their rights and achieving their existential
needs, and also improving social welfare and social status of people
with disability.
The member can become every physical or legal entity who wants it
and is willing to work and help in achieving the goals and tasks of
the association. The members of the association can be regular and
supportive.
Regular members are persons with disability:
persons suffering from dystrophy and similar muscular and neuron-muscular
illness,
persons with cerebral paralysis,
persons with infantile paralysis,
persons with hemiplegia, diplegia, paraplegia, tetraplegia and
quadriplegia,
persons whit hemi paresis, para paresis, tetraparesis,
persons whit subsequent amputatio extremitas (limb amputation),
persons suffering from osteogenesis imperfecta,
persons whit juvenile arthritis,
persons suffering from arthrogryposis,
person with degenerative-compressive lesion of spinal cord with
suppression in motor activity, and
persons suffering from other malformation with consequence of
physical disability.
Supportive members are physical and legal entities who with their
work, contributions, and sponsorship or in some other way help or
explicitly participate in accomplishing the goals of the association.
One becomes a member of the association by the decision of the
administrative commission due to the fulfilled application form i.e.
statement expressing desire to become a member of the association.
